NEW YEAR EXHIBITION - "ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL"
Popular Ayrshire artist Elaine Johnston has just returned to us with a brand new exhibition of her artwork. Elaine is well-known for her distinctive “portraits” of farmyard animals, but has recently expanded her extensive portfolio of work into studies of Scottish wildlife, including mice, deer, hares and birds.
This exhibition, appropriately named “All Creatures Great and Small”, has something to suit all pockets and, in addition to original oil paintings, affordable prints of Elaine’s work will also be on sale in our shop, starting at only £12.
Over 40 people attended the preview of the exhibition on the evening of the 6th January and everyone got a chance to talk to Elaine about her work.
Elaine was born in Glasgow and graduated with honours from Glasgow School of Art in 1997, with a further BA degree from the Royal Academy of Art and Drama in 2004. During her career, she has specialised in both design and fine art. In these particular areas Elaine has worked with the Department of Trade and Industry, the British Embassy and the Royal Family of Monaco to name but a few. Amongst the various awards she has obtained are The Young Achiever’s Award for Scotland, presented by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace and the Design for Diplomat’s, presented by the then Prime Minister Tony Blair at Downing Street.
This accomplished artist now lives in the village of Sorn, Ayrshire, combining family and work commitments in a rural environment. She has continued to specialise in oil paintings for both the private and public sector, as well as galleries throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.
A’ the Airts hosted its first, highly successful exhibition of Elaine’s work - “Muckle Coos and Cowpit Yowes”- this time last year, not long after Upper Nithsdale’s new Arts Centre opened.
The exhibition will run from 7th January to 14th February. Admission is free.
